One of the things I do daily, is I have some noise or movie playing while I work through email or busywork. Today I was working through the movie “The Gladiator”, thanks Netflix. I got an email from someone that said, ”How do you know so much? “
I don’t. I learned what I know because I wanted to know it. I know that sounds like common sense. But most people do not think that way. We all know the saying “teach a man to fish” But he won’t fish if you keep doing it for him or if he doesn’t want to fish. Some people will starve before they fish for themselves. It’s sad but a lot of our faculty and Staffs are like that. Do you not think our kids pick up on that?
I do not pretend to know everything; I do try to learn all I can. Take quilts for example. Will I ever quilt no, but a friend does and I enjoy talking with her about it.

My wife works in cardiology. Will I ever hold a human heart in my hand? I doubt that but because she loves it. I want to know a little about it so I can talk with her about it. What if our kids love “social media” (Facebook, twitter, YouTube, MySpace). Do we not care enough about them to at least understand what they are about?

From my dad, after being told I need to straighten up or lose my scholarship half way through my freshman year.

“I was a coal miner, so you wouldn’t have to be.”
I totally understood that.

After a game my junior year of high school, where I dropped a pass in the end zone. We lost.

“Tomorrow one billion people will wake up in China and never know a thing about it.”
The next year when we played that team, I caused a fumble, recovered another fumble, had both an interception and a touchdown and about 10 tackles.

From Jimmy Buffet’s book, “Where is Joe Merchant?”, and later a song by Buffet.

“Some people never find it….Some… only pretend, but me: I just want to live happily ever after every now and then”
Those moments are everything.
